Was at Golden Mile on Thursday , 26th Feb. BKKs rate was 2296. The small money changer nearest to BKK was offering 2298. Sometimes BKK offers the better rate than smaller money changers, sometimes other way around.

Been a long time since my last visit to LOS. Last time I was there the rate was 2500. Need to start going again.

With budget airlines & better exchange rates, things are looking up.

bro... please re-confirm if u open the bank account under your name? or joint account with your teerak?

the last i checked with Bangkok Bank that a work permit was needed to have the online banking service.

but for opening of a normal savings account, any foreigner with passport and local address will do.

Interesting... is it Bangkok Bank? I understand too only foreigner residing in Thailand could apply?

Bank Account
If you are working or living in Thailand or just moving here, we can help to set up a new bank account for you quickly and easily. With a long-term visa and a work permit or a Certificate of Residence, you can apply for access to our additional banking services like phone banking, mobile phone banking and internet banking.

Once you have opened your account you will receive a Bangkok Bank passbook which can be updated at our handy terminals in our branches. Your passbook is a handy way of tracking your account movements and takes the place of an account statement.

With a Bangkok Bank account, you can also apply for a Bualuang ATM card.

Non-Resident Baht Account

This account is for personal and corporate foreign customers who want to have an account that enables funds to be transferred into and out of Thailand for specific purposes including investments. It helps save your time when you want to send your funds to a foreign country or make payments or repayments to overseas recipients.

With a Non-Resident Baht Account, all sources of funds and the purpose of the deposit or withdrawal must be declared according to the Bank of Thailand's regulations.

You can open the account at our head office on Silom Road where our Marketing Officers are available to give you more information and help you with your needs.

This account operates at Bangkok Bank's head office on Silom Road by counter service only.

How to open a Non-Resident Baht Account

Individual customers need to bring along their passport and evidence declaring the source of funds.

Corporate customers need to bring along the following documents:
- Copy of Registration Certificate (not more than 1 month old)
- Memorandum and Articles of Association
- Minutes of a Board of Directors Meeting stating the account opening, names of authorized signatories and conditions of signing
- Passports of the Directors and the authorized signatories
- Power of Attorney (required when the signatory is not a director of the company)

All documents must be verified by the Notary Public and attested to by the Royal Thai Embassy in the country of company registration. The original documents with their certified true copies must be submitted when opening an account.

yes work permit, even if i open a joint account with my wife also cannot. so in the end just use her old account to get a internet facility.

i have a Thai Citibank Ready Credit a/c and able to view from internet, but this was available during the time i had a work permit and is still active. :D
But the Citibank's internet option only allows me to view balance and transfer to Bangkok bank a/cs, as compared with many functions with the Sg website.

Or can try using your ATM card on different ATM banks. Of course charges and exchange rate applies.

Or can open a bank account beforehand in Thai Farmers Bank, then go Golden Mile and transfer by remittance. But provided you can pass the "interview" when the bank staff ask you why you want open a bank account in thailand.

I would say both lah. I try not to use ATM card, as you've said, the rates, i suppose are not that attractive. On top of that, they charge a fee for every withdrawal made.

HOw about Banngkok bank? They do have a branch at Cecil Street. Can I open an account wif them in SG and then withdrawal monies using their ATM card??

as far as i know the branch in sg is for commercial purposes. it does not cater to consumer needs. you can perhaps open a company account with them.

Go to any exchange rate counter at Golden Mile, the staff will be able to assist you. The info required as follows:

1. Name of your Friend
2. Name of Bank / Account Nos / Branch
3. Sender and Receiver HP number, if any

The charges is either $10 or $12 depend of your choice (differ is juz the rate and if you TT more than $3, can negotiate for better rate). If you send in the morning before noon, BKK will be able to receive on same day before 3pm and if you send in the evening, BKK will be able to receive on next day before 3pm. Hope the info is sufficient.

Sland money changer vs Bkk banks exchange rates :

Many times, I felt cheated when I saw the exchange rates in the BKK banks were better after in arrival BKK.

Ha....ha...

I found a way to ensure that the exchange rate at the our Sland Money Changer is at least better than the Thai Banks before we do the change in Sland.

Change this website before visit to our local money changer :

Sorry...but how can you tell on a "real time" basis ??? You called both BKK and Hdy to compare??
If you are talikng banks...they are the same thru-out Thailand.

Private money changers of course cn o ffer better ratesthan the banks. But not many people will border to look for one in BKK....can be very far you know. Taxi fare also not enough to cover the difference.......

Why local MC ??? ...How you compare ??? You know the local rate today ? and you compare with the website ??? How ???

Solely based on my past experience . Will always change beforehand if i go bkk and whereas for haadyai can change in GM or the tour agent in lovely etc ..comparison between both about 10 baht different for every $100.

It's confirmed today that the Sland's MCs do not offer any better rate than the Banks in Thailand. In fact, their rate is lower....that confirmed my suspicious all the while......

Just check today :

Parkway Parade : Chinese MC- 23.2 Indian MC- 23.3
Golden Mile (by phone) : Chinese - 23.3 Indian MC : 23.4
The Thai bank rates today(per website above) : On real time
Bangkok Bank : 23.54
KrungThai Bank : 23.55

Bros.....So why need to change with the money changers in Singapore ??? Forget about changing with them. It's so convenient to change with the banks in Thailand esp BKK and Puhket their all over the town and with so many diffferent banks compteting.....

For those who are going to change big "volume" for some reasons....the MC in BKK got even better rates...Those "lau jiao" will know that. Many of them are located in Yoawalut and Siphan Kwai.

So fark the S'pore MCs.......for Thai baht exchange.....

phenom

Except for USA and Europe, I never changed my money in SG.
For donkey years, I did the exchange in the country of destination.
For Bkk, I would change enough to last me only at most for the first day and thereafter usually at Timmie's(or is it Timmy?) which is situated directly across the road opposite Indra Hotel in Pratunam, a few steps away from the overhead bridge. They consistantly offer one of the best rates in Bkk. They even give a little bit more on big notes. As the S$500 is no longer available(sigh), bring along the S$1k for that extra bahts.
Some goldsmith shops in the Saphan Kwai area are also good.
I concur that the bank counters at the airport do give better value than the MCs in Sg. As for Sg banks, they think that we are idiots and morons....with their ridiculously low rates.
Ditto for Jakarta(best rates in Chinatown) and Manila(highest value in Balibago); the other cities I go to very often.

I just want to share some info.Lacking of cash on hand,i used my UOB Debit card to make payment in entertainment establishment in Bangkok during the 7th & 9th June last month. One payment slip is Bht 2000,after the UOB bank transfer the amt to Sgd is $85.53.That mean the exchange rate i get is 23.38 at that time.I think the rate is consider good for me,i would prefer to make my payment by card.Unless they need me to pay by cash, that "lanlan" i have to go ATM to make withdrawal when UOB will charge a $5 service fee for oversea withdrawal.(Is it $5 or less, can"t really remember)In the end,it will cost more than using card.Do you brudders think so too?I attached a related website www.mymoneyskills.com for more info on credit & debit cards.

Me also change some money in BKK the day before yersterday.

Not at the airport but at the Western Union Exchange counter (Siam Comercial Bank) in Central Plaza ex WTC at 23.96.

I noticed that this Western Union Counter offer rates better than those in the airport and around.

Here is the website for yr reference :

Hi Bros, did you guys had upgraded your existing ATM card to the Blue colour one? The new card have additional features that allow you to draw money from overseas using your normal pin number from machines that bare the Cirrus and Maestro logos. Just bring your IC and existing grey card to the counter for upgrade. For more details :~

I agree absolutely, for the relatively small sums of money we change for personal consumption while on vacation, the difference is frequently not worth running around all over Singapore. For those of us who work around Raffles Place it's easy to demonstrate this for ourselves with a few quick queries around The Arcade. Incidently this site has accurate real time mid rates:

assuming rate at thailand is 1 to 24B. change 1000sg = u get 24000B
if rate in singapore is 24.10 u get 24100B
so how much is the saving for a 0.1B change? only 100B.

so do we need to change our money in singapore?
hahaha, you are funny but its true.

Unless you are at GM, then change at GM. Otherwise, I don't really see a need to really go there and change money. In bkk also can. To get the extra 100-200baht, also need to take transport there to GM, unless you stay above GM.

Unless you are nearby the area, it is not really wise to travel there all the way to change money. It is always advisable to go somewhere nearby to change even the exchange rate might be lower than elsewhere. counting cost of transport etc should be taken in as one of the factors.

However, unless you are going to change big amounts, then thats a different story.

Thai baht is going weak due to the bombings in the South. Should be a good time for those who need Thai Baht.
