NARATHIWAT
A small town with many old wooden buildings, Narathiwat has some exceptional beaches on its coastline, right the way down to the Malaysian border. Wonderful seafood restaurants dot the beaches. The coast also provides probably the best windsurfing in Thailand, and postcards with its motif-painted fishing boats. Taksin Palace (open to the public except from August to October for 2 months, when the royal family are in residence) is in this area. There is an annual fair during the 3rd week of September. Sungai Golok, is the main border crossing point with Malaysia with a substantial number of brothels awaiting visiting Malaysian men.

For those travelling from Bangkok to Singapore by rail, there's another route they can take other than the standard Penang-Kuala Lumpur route. This one is not on the main tourist trail, and thus not as well known. A branch line running from Hat Yai to Sungai Golok on the east coast, on the Gulf of Thailand takes you to the Eastern border with Malaysia. Although Sungai Golok marks the end of the Thai line, passengers can cross the border and continue by rail from Khota Bharu in Malaysia to both Kuala Lumpur and Singapore. The crossing is not difficult, providing you are not carrying a lot of luggage. From the railway station it's only a short distance by trishaw/sorngthaew to the Thai immigration post on the border.

Porters are on hand to take you to Malaysian immigration and customs. From here, off-station taxis make the 28 km run through some lovely Malay country side into Khota Bharu, for a fare of only a few Malaysian ringit (dollars) per person. From Khota Bharu there's a rail line that runs down the central highlands of the Malay Peninsula to Singapore. It is an exciting train trip through some dense jungle, parts of which are still unexplored to this day. For the return trip, two trains leave from Sungai Golok for Bangkok each morning, at 9:20 and 11:20 and arrive in the capital the next morning. Sleepers are available for the overnight trip.

It has to be said though, that most obvious reason for passing through Sungai Golok would be to get to the Perhentian Islands. Even if you do only need a visa stamp it seems a waste of a trip not to stop off to visit the Perhentian islands for a couple of days particularly for the diving enthusiast.

THINGS TO SEE & DO
In reality, not very much in the town itself. A couple of faded Mosques impress upon the visitor that this is largely a Muslim community, a park with murky fish pond, an old steam locomotive and a statue of King Rama V and another park with a rarely used fitness area and a pair of water fountains virtually takes up the sightseeing. Many of the signs in the town are in Malay script as well as Chinese and Thai. The 7-11 convenience store is the only franchise operation in town. A couple of Internet Cafes have sprung up to cater for the tourists.

Older buildings still outnumber newer constructions unlike so many Thai towns and cities. One building on Chuen Makka Road bears the Romanized year 1957 in concrete while in Prashavivat Soi 2 the Stellar Hotel boasts a garish red-brick Martello Tower.

Reason to Visit
Besides visiting the Perhentian Islands then, the other seemingly common reason for going to Sungai Golok is to walk over the border and get that Visa stamp. The Thai Immigration officers are a friendly bunch, probably because they don't get to see large numbers of foreigners (other than Malays) traversing back and forth. Some people even opt to press on to Khota Baru for a 2-month tourist visa.

The Sungai River separates the border only about 20 metres wide in places and the two sides could easily lob rocks onto each other's roofs.
Once through Thai immigration a short walk takes you to Malay immigration where it is necessary to fill out an Arrival Card.

ACCOMMODATION
One thing Sungai Golok is not short of is hotels, of all shapes, sizes and catering to all budgets. Some 41 places to lay your weary head in a town not much bigger than a postage stamp. Rooms can be had from as little as 80 baht a night to more palatial sleeping palaces at anything up to 2,000 baht. They do not really seem to cater to Western tourists probably because most visitors pass through on their way to the Perhenthian Islands or Khota Baru if planning to take the train down to Kuala Lumpur.

GETTING THERE & AWAY
By far the easiest and most comfortable way to travel is the train. From Suratthani it takes about 9-10 hours in an overnight train and about 22-23 hours all the way from Bangkok. Carriages are 2nd class - either fan or air-con. There are no private 1st class compartments on this lesser frequented route. Beware, book at least 4 days ahead as there is only the one service. During public holidays you would be advised to allow longer. See festivals.

It's also possible to catch a bus from Suratthani.

Report from Bangkok Post dated Monday 1 May 2006 :-

Thais rush for cheaper fuel in Malaysia

Hundreds of vehicles from southernmost provinces are queueing up at the Sungai Kolok checkpoint everyday as motorists try to stock up on the cheaper Malaysian fuel.

This follows rumours that Malaysia will soon impose a fuel surcharge on Thais filling up at its petrol stations.

Private cars and buses have been forming long queues everyday for over a week now at the border checkpoint in Narathiwat province as more and more vehicles head for petrol stations in Rantau Panjang in the Malaysian state of Kelantan to stock up.

The vehicles mostly come from Narathiwat and nearby provinces.

It has been rumoured the Malaysian authorities may soon impose a fuel surcharge of 200 baht for a car and 40 baht for a motorcycle in order to discourage the influx of motorists from Thailand.

The petrol rush has drawn complaints from Malaysians in Rantau Panjang that they sometimes have to wait for almost an hour to top up their tanks. Sometimes the petrol stations run dry, which really annoys the local people.

Higher oil prices are also hitting fishermen in the deep South. About half of the trawlers in Krabi and Satun remain tied up in port.

Report from The New Straits Times dated Friday 14 April 2006 :-

Things looking up for Sungai Golok

SUNGAI GOLOK: Things appear to be slowly on the mend for this once-thriving town on the Malaysian-Thai border that is popular with Malaysians.

If in the two previous years, operators of hotels, bars and restaurants were reeling from the sudden drop in tourist arrivals because of the violence, "this year" they seem to be off to a good a start — "this year" being the start of the traditional Thai lunar year which the locals call "Songkran", and celebrated over three days.

In Sanskrit, Songkran means "to enter".

The streets of the town were choked with revellers and vehicles as Thais came out in droves to drench each other with water to mark the auspicious occasion.

Children and adults rode around the streets on the back of pick-up trucks with tanks, water guns and pails ready to drench any passing motorist or pedestrian.

Most of the motorcyclists were seen riding around drenched to the bone, courtesy of groups of men and women who waited on the sidewalks with buckets and hoses.

For businesses here dependent on the Malaysian tourist ringgit, the celebrations marked a tentative hope that the cycle of violence seen in the last two years is beginning to end.

"Malaysians are trickling back. No doubt about it," said a soup seller on Marina Road known as Ming Ming.

The 44-year-old attributes this to tighter security in the town, seen in the almost hourly police and military patrols.

"It is still not as good as five years ago. But this year, Malaysians are more confident of travelling here," he said.

The act of greeting the new year by splashing water signifies the cleansing and purification of all ills, misfortune and evil, and starting with all that is good and pure for the new year.

Water is symbolic of cleanliness and purity.

Before the insurgency began in January 2004, the occupancy rate of the town’s hotels was 100 per cent during the Songkran festival.

According to Narathiwat Business Council chairman Abdul Aziz Awang Seman, the hotel occupancy rate fell to 10 per cent in 2004 and last year as Malaysians shied away.

Aziz said in the same period this year, hotels recorded a slight rise of 15 per cent in reservations by Malaysians.

Mariana Hotel manager Walairat Chot is guardedly optimistic about the future despite the fact that all the hotel’s 156 rooms have been taken up.

"I would say that this year is more or less the same as the previous two. But Malaysians do seem to be trickling back," she said.

Tourist Charles Wong, from Kuala Lumpur, said this was his first trip to Sungai Golok.

"My friends and I wanted to come here last year, but were advised against it by other friends as it was not very safe," the 46-year-old businessman said.

This year, Wong and six of this friends decided that it was safe enough for them to visit.

Report from The New Straits Times dated Wednesday 17 May 2006 :-

More Malaysian tourists expected to visit Sungai Golok

SUNGAI GOLOK: Thailand is expecting an upsurge in Malaysian tourists to the southern provinces this year, following a slowdown in violence in the areas.

About 1.4 million Malaysians visited the provinces annually before an upsurge in bombings and attacks saw the numbers dwindle to about 300,000 last year.

Narathiwat Tourist Business Association chairman Abdul Aziz Awang Seman said 600,000 Malaysians were expected to cross the border this year.

"The confidence is based on the overwhelming turnout of Malaysians during the recent Songkran (water festival).

"It showed renewed confidence among Malaysians, especially with fewer shootings and bombings," he said.

Aziz said many hotels and shopping complexes, forced to close down because of poor business, had reopened.

KatoeyLover69,

So, what else do you know about about Sungai Golok ?.

Have you ever walked at 2 am on the railway bridge ( escorted by Malaysian soldiers ) and without stamp on passport or borderpass across the border ?.

Have you ever been to the thai bars on that dirt lane just behind Grand Hotel ?.

Have you ever been to House 69 with the most friendly un pushing papasan ?.

Have you ever seen Russians doing agg on the Sky Lounge of Marina Hotel ?.

Have you ever seen the Mona Lisa picture with perky tits in the massage parlour on the second floor of Marina Hotel ?.

Have you seen the unique VVIP room with round bed and mirrors in Grand Hotel ?.

Do you know what god that chinese temple is dedicated to which is next to Marina Hotel and what dialect that caretaker speaks ?.

What other useful information can you tell us SBF members ?.

spawn jimmy,
1. How many of u going to Sg. Golok ?.
2. Anyone of you been there before ?.
3. Sing or M'sian ?.

Hotel to stay:
1. Genting Hotel ,Marina Hotel ( both top end ) with their respective restaurants ( with singers on stage ), KTV, disco, inhouse barber, pool room, MPs, outdoor swimming pool. Both hotels have car parking. Rooms nothing more than 750thb.
2. Venice Hotel is center of town ( only restaurant and MP ) room not more than 60 thb.
3. Grand Hotel with MP, restuarant, swimming pool. Located at the end of a notorious road with many farms. Rooms are small.
4. Cheap stays abound, Tiara Hotel, Merlin Hotel.
5. No guest fine by hotels.

Cheong places :
1. Mostly farms. See line ups in many farms ( many with pushy with fake friendly atitudes papasans ). Booking and girl staying with u time is until next morning 7 to 9 am. Price THB2000 onwards. Can bonk more than thrice ( depending on the chemistry between you and girl ).
2. MPs, not the soapy type ( none are available in Sg.Golok ). Bonk prices = u negiotate with the MP lady.

Discos:
Genting Hotel, Marina Hotel, Tiara Hotel.

Got free ah kua ( LB ) shows, fashion parade near the end of the night. The shows ( up to my knowledge until now ) are free provided you drink something
in the disco. Its like an agg show in Bangkok, Pattaya or in Shalala in Danok. Drinks you pay, free shows to watch.

Dangers:
1. At all cost , avoid the motor bike touts, all touts in fact when going across the bridge from Rantau Panjang to Sg.Golok. Get through the Thai immigration
and walk on , when you see the motor bike taxi with their colour vests with numbers on it in one corner ( usually many bikes are parked and there is usually a group of them there ), get on one, say your Hotel and the bike taxi driver will take you there safely.

Get on one of those touts and you are dead !!!. These touts are not those motor bike taxi riders with their colour vests. The touts will surely take you to a farm, where girls are ugly, force u to take one for LT for THB 5000, and if you refuse, you will be surrounded by thugs and papasan will draw out a small firearm ( pistol or revolver ) and start inserting bullets into the chamber and start cleaning the gun with a cloth. If any tout comes to you, ignore them at all cost.

2. Never ever cross the river in row boat if you are not a local

Report from The STAR (Malaysia) dated Wednesday 14 January 2009 :-

Bomb blasts at Malaysian-Thai border checkpoint

GOLOK : Two bombs exploded at the Malaysia-Thailand checkpoint Wednesday morning, destroying three new posts belonged to Thai immigration at the Golok bridge.

The first bomb went off at 6.30am (7.30am Malaysian time), destroying three of the six posts.

Fifteen minutes later another bomb exploded nearby, forcing the closure of the busy bridge which connects Golok in Thailand to Rantau Panjang in Kelantan.

Thai deputy consul-general in Malaysia, Niran Boonjit, told Bernama that no one was injured in the incident.

“The posts were being used by the Immigration Department as a temporary office and had not started operations yet. There was nobody near the place when the explosions occurred,” he said.

A Thai police spokesman told Bernama in Bangkok that both bombs, weighing 1kg and 2kg, were triggered using digital watches.

Members of the media were not allowed near the scene.

The bridge, which is open daily from 6am to 10pm, had been reopened and the situation returned to normal by Wednesday afternoon.

“The situation is under control. Everything is back to normal at the entry gate,” Niran said.

A worker at the checkpoint, Mokhtar Che Mat, said workers, fearing for their safety, had for cover upon hearing the explosions.

Tour guide Shaari Jusoh said the explosions could be heard in Rantau Panjang some 300m away.

Kelantan police chief Datuk Abdul Rahim Hanafi said police were on the alert and had taken steps to ensure safety at the border.

He reminded Malaysians to be extra careful when visiting restive southern Thailand provinces.

More than 3,500 people have died since suspected separatists resumed their armed campaign to seek independence for the Muslim-majority provinces of Narathiwat, Pattani and Yala.

Some infos on 2 days Short Trip (Sg Golok), From KL and friends from Kota Bahru.

Went there 2 days ago 3.00 pm, check in at Merlin Hotel RM42.00 /THB390 cause exchange went up. Mini bar only two bottles of water (free). You can buy beer outside and fill it up. Save money if some girls will finish the mini bar tit bits and drinks.

Notice a lot of army walking and guarding at T junction, corners with M16 guns and police setting road blocks checking mostly motorcycles and car/4WD beside Merlin Hotel its like a curfew town.

Notice a lot of motorcycles park outside shops with the seat open (make sure no explosive inside).

2nd night stay at Genting Hotel RM60.00/ THB580, Mini bar full of beverages. Beer (Heneiken Large bottle) you can order at Reception counter RM6.50 per bottle but minimum of 6 bottles and hotel boy will bring it up to your room.

At night Disco at Marina and Genting smells a lot of Ganja and people taking pills (careful sometime checkpoint got urin test but they want money only)
.
Walk behind Marina Hotel about 10-12 beer bars quite a lot of girls at the bars, but also a lot of police and army with M16 guarding the entrance.

Not safe there, these coward bombers normally like to attack police. Walk towards Merlin Hotel a long the road there are a few beer bars, sat there and drink few bottles and saw road block checking motobikes, in front the bars ask the motobikes to push far away to avoid high risk of blasting.

So quickly left the place went to a Karoake "NOK SUPER SUKI" beside Garden Hotel.

Drinks:Beer (heineken (L) bottle only) RM12.00,
Stout RM9.00 (Can) no other brands Singha/Chang/Leo

Girls:Laos age 17-23 yrs 15-20 girls, speak Thai a bit chinese and english. can speak thai then you enjoy. Friendly girls.

Tips: up to you and you can book at RM150-200

Other: If you can drink 10 bottles then the girls can drink double.
But with other brands like (Singha) i think they cannot do it, because heineken very light. Songs chinese and english (not much variety)

Enjoy there with less army and police.

Near this karaoke have a lot of farms and a AGO GO in Riveria Hotel.

The girls ask us to come 3 days time cause is Songkran Festival she said we will enjoy but ...... like curfew town.. no..no..come back.

Later take a uniform motorbike taxi RM3 back to hotel.

To be safe stay at Hotels which have bar, disco, restron so no need to go out.

Bro, your question, pros house is around THB1,200 - THB2,000 depend on age range, a lot from Laos young ones but ask what service BBJ, BJ with cap,Shower together, limited shots, etc,. Thai pros slightly cheaper.

Hotels are cheapest among the border towns, Genting THB 580,Marina THB 650, Merlin THB420, Genting and Marina you have disco, massage, restaurant all facilities.

Report from Bangkok Post dated Wednesday 13 October 2010 ;-

Living down a troubled past - Violence-free Betong district is now ready to welcome back tourists

A former Betong district chief describes this southernmost township as "a place where people are afraid to come but don't want to leave".

Betong is about 1,600 kilometres from Bangkok. The distance, however, does nothing to keep people away from this exquisite town on the Thai-Malaysian border.

The fact that it is one of eight districts of insurgent-infiltrated Yala province cannot hide its many beauties.

The easiest way to get there is via Highway No. 410, which snakes through mountainous areas, passing Krong Pinang, Bannang Sata and Than To districts, where deadly attacks have taken place since the southern unrest flared up six years ago.

Traces of bomb craters and holes dotting the 140 kilometre-long highway linking Muang district with Betong are evidence of years of unrest. They are in stark contrast to the splendid scenery of lush tropical forest, wild flowers, rock cliffs, natural creeks and small villages.

"Outsiders fear death when they hear the names of Yala districts," Yala governor Grisada Boonrach told about 60 Thai and Malaysian journalists during a tourism promotion trip to Betong last month.

From January 2004 until January this year, there were about 9,500 separatism-related violent incidents in the provinces of Pattani, Yala and Narathiwat, plus the four districts of Songkhla. At least 4,100 people have died and more than 6,500 have been injured.

Yala suffered the second-highest number of attacks after Narathiwat.

"In fact, Yala is not as scary as people thought, especially Betong, which has the lowest number of violent incidents of districts in the deep South," Mr Grisada said.

Betong municipality had zero reports of violent incidents over the past couple of years, he added.

The last major incident in Betong municipality was on June 15, 2006, when militants set off 50 bombs in the three southernmost provinces, killing at least three people and injuring scores of state workers and civilians. Six bank branches in the municipality were hit. There were no casualties.

After that attack, Betong residents joined hands to safeguard their communities and successfully blocked insurgents from causing unrest in the district.

"We have been trying to promote the Betong model to violence-ridden districts. Betong villagers have proved that strength and unity among residents are the key to warding off insurgent attacks," said the governor.

Betong is a closed town with only one main road, making security operations easier than in other districts. Its security situation has prompted Yala provincial office to promote Betong as the selling point for Yala tourism.

Mr Grisada said Betong had "everything a town needs to become a popular tourist destination" - from the fine annual average temperature of 18C, cultural diversity, delicious food and tourism venues such as the famous Piyamit Tunnel, built by members of the now-defunct Communist Party of Malaya, royally initiated highland flower orchards and natural hot springs.

The district also links with tourist destinations in the Malaysian states of Penang and Perak via a Malaysian highway.

Yala province has been working on two megaprojects that will raise Betong's profile on the tourism map.

One is the construction of a bridge crossing Bang Lang Dam's reservoir in Bannang Sata district. The bridge would shorten the distance from Muang district to Betong to 110km and cut travelling time by 40 minutes. It currently takes about two hours by car.

The other project is Betong airport, which is to be built on a 920-rai plot. The government has allocated the first batch of a 200 million baht budget for land purchase.

The airport will serve small aircraft and be similar in size and capacity to Mae Hong Son airport.

According to Betong municipal mayor Khunawut Mongkhonprajak, the road project, supervised by military engineers, is due to be completed within two years, while the airport project is expected to be completed in 2014 at the earliest.

He believes the projects will boost Betong tourism. Security is no longer a problem, he said, thanks to strong defence operations by Betong villagers, especially in the municipal area. The mayor feels the district is now ready to welcome visitors.

"The 2006 bombings were a wake-up call for Betong residents. We never lowered our guard [against violent attacks]," said Mr Khunawut. "We have installed surveillance cameras in the centre and everyone - from food vendors to bell boys - is working as security guards for the town."

The mayor was referring to the famous Ta Sapparot (pineapple's eyes) and Red Radio projects in which residents are trained to keep watch for unusual incidents and suspicious characters.

Some 350 walkie-talkies were distributed to Betong residents by the 4th Army earlier this year for peace-keeping operations. Members of the Ta Sapparot and Red Radio networks can be seen almost on every corner in the municipality of 78 square kilometres.

"Betong is a multicultural community, but people can live in harmony because local authorities ensure that all groups of people receive equal treatment in all aspects, from education and health care to roles in local administrations," Mr Khunawut said.

Jeerawan Tang-opaswilaisakul, 55, a noodle vendor near Betong Mongkollit Tunnel, a town landmark, said tourism development could make a difference to the livelihoods of residents.

She admitted the atmosphere was quite unpleasant in this town in the aftermath of the 2006 bombings, but said the situation has improved a great deal now.

"We have a strong team of security volunteers. You will feel safe and fall in love with this peaceful town," she said.

Report from The New Straits Times (Malaysia) dated Monday 18 October 2010 :-

Sungai Golok vice ring that sends women to Malaysia

SUNGAI GOLOK (Southern Thailand): Thai police are tracking down a syndicate based here that provides prostitutes from local nightclubs and massage parlours to their counterparts in Malaysia.

The syndicate, whose members comprised Malaysians and Thais, was believed to have been active over the past several years.

Sungai Golok police chief Colonel Nitinai Langyanai said the syndicate targeted young and beautiful women from nightclubs and massage parlours here to be prostituted at several places, mostly in the Klang Valley.

"The group uses Kelantan as its transit point before sending the women to various destinations. The women are promised better-paying jobs in Malaysia but are cheated and end up as prostitutes.

Nitinai said in some cases, the women went willingly with the syndicate as they were promised jobs with a high income.

Police chief warns South of New Year attacks

The South will probably be hit by insurgent bomb attacks both before and during the New Year holiday period, national police chief Pol General Wichean Potephosree said yesterday, based on a recent intelligence report.

Most of Yala and Narathiwat provinces are at risk, as well as the Hat Yai district in Songkhla province. Though Pattani is not included in the warning, residents are advised to remain cautious, he said.

He said police "were not taking this warning lightly" and were setting up preventive measures. Wichean was speaking after visiting a police bomb-disposal unit in Yala and reassuring Muslim clerics in the South that scientific evidence would bring justice to the region.

Report from The Nation dated Thursday 30.12.2010 :-

South warned of New Year bomb attacks

An explosion in Narathiwat's Ba Cho district in the deep South left four civilians wounded, while intelligence reports have warned against insurgent car-bomb attacks in the region over the New Year period.

Yesterday's home-made bomb, 15kg of explosives in a fire extinguisher, was placed in a Mazda pickup with a fake Songkhla licence plate and parked on Phetkasem Road, not far from the Ba Cho police station.

Security camera footage shows the driver as a well-dressed middle-aged man in white shirt and black pants.

The blast, detonated by mobile-phone signals at around 8.40am, targeted the mobile patrol of a Navy taskforce but narrowly missed its target. The explosion wounded four bystanders, three of whom were road construction workers

4/8/2011. Took a taxi costing RM75 from the airport in Kota Bharu to Rantau Panjang. Dropped by and saw a friend in town who later drove me in his motorbike and let me off near the Malaysian immigration whereby i bypassed without using my passport. Walked along the Harmony Bridge with Sungai Golok below that seperates Malaysia and Thailand.

Its good to be back in Sungai Golok. A place where my cheong experiences started in LOS, over 20 years ago. I have not been in Sungai Golok for over 16 years. Fond memories of my two tiraks, Ah Lin, Ah Pom and other excellent and pathetic encounters with the various ladies, good and bad OKTs, farms, bars, discos, lady boy shows, hotels, etc in Sungai Golok.

There are no changes in Harmony Bridge. Next bridge which is 50 meters away is the railway bridge which me and a few friends crossed without stamping our passports at 3am Malaysian time. We had to meet the comander in chief of the Malaysian Army stationed in the camp. Talked cock with him for an hour, who later asked a patrol of troops to escort us via the railway bridge from the army camp into Sungai Golok. Pretty dangerous, walking on the railway slidings at night. On the other side, which was unguarded, we took the motorbikes to Genting Hotel.

Harmony Bridge was closed, no sampans to cross over at that time. We can wade across the small river to Sungai Golok but instead we took another way.......via the railway bridge by getting to know the comander of the Malaysian Army camp. Very exciting, loh but one of my friends nearly shit and was afraid when crossing the railway bridge. He was damn afraid that he may slipped and fell into the river below !!!.

The hotels is Sungai Golok are the following:

1. Genting Hotel on Asia Road with massage parlour, disco, barber, snooker, restaurant, swimming pool. This is the closest hotel to the immigration. Rooms are now a bit dated now and no XXX channel on TV. No safe deposit box in rooms. Big conference room on the top floor. Got enough parking in front of the hotel.

Used to have an excellent restaurant when i frequent Sungai Golok last time. Excellent shows by Thai puyings and puchais with live band. Every time we sat at a table, many puyings swarmed our table. My friend bonked a singer for free in her room. Damn, how lucky for him !!!.

2. Marina Hotel on Charoenkit Road with Mona Liza massage parlour, Billboard Super Club Disco, Mikado Karaoke, massage parlour, a closed barber, snooker parlour with 5 tables and with drinks counter, an unused and dirty swimming pool because the boss refused to fix the broken filteration system, Meridien restaurant with stage whereby you will be entertained by Thai singers. The Sky Lounge where i previously seen several syt Russians gyrating is now closed and is now converted to get bird nests from swiflets !!!.

Rates for single and double are RM73 to a suite that will cost RM180 ( its a double room joining to another room that is a lounge ). No safe deposit box or XXX porn on TV in the rooms. Got a full mini fridge with beers, soft drinks, etc. Got small parking spaces inside the hotel.

3. Grand Garden Hotel on Prachawiwat Road with more expensive massage parlour, a closed Beijing Karaoke, and a nice swimming pool and restaurant. Rooms are much smaller than Marina Hotel. Small bathroom. Lousy air conditioning. Also got a full mini fridge. No XXX porn on TV but got better and more channels than Marina Hotel. With WiFi. Looked real good from the outside but rather not so good on all the 4 floors where the rooms are located. Dirty carpeting, small lift, rather dark, etc. Hardly any parking in the hotel.

Located rather far away from the immigration crossing but next door to the farms on two roads and on a side road. Rates are RM 60 to RM 186 ( rooms with round bed, multiple mirrors on walls and on the ceiling ).

To be continued:

4. Venice Palace Hotel on Cheonmakka Rd. The Gucci Super Club or disco in the basement is baricaded and closed. Only the restaurant, barber and small massage parlour with dinos are opened for business. Rates starts from RM 46.

No safe deposit box and Wifi in rooms here. The room is small. The bathroom is bigger than Grand Garden Hotel. Got a fridge with drinks and tit bits. Got small TV with few channels and a Japanese porn channel during the night.

5. Merlin Inn on Charoenkit Rd, got bombed some time ago. The lowest rate is just above RM40 but unavailable as these were fully booked. The next available category was RM66 with a bathtub that i do not need. Only a restaurant here. Skipped this hotel and spent my first day in Venice Palace Hotel which is within walking distance.

6. Riveira Hotel on Prachawiwat Rd, on the same road with Grand Garden Hotel has a functioning disco with near naked agogo ladies. Located where the farms are. Another hotel is Tara Regent Hotel which is on Charoenkit Rd and is opposite Marina Hotel. I have stayed in Genting, Marina, Grand Garden,Venice Palace, Merlin, Tara Regent before. And went to Tara Regent Disco many years ago but i never went inside this disco now so i do not know if it is still open or not.

The other hotels are smaller and these are Taksin 1 and 2, Impress, San Sabai, SWAT, Valentine, Harry, Pairin, City, Intertower, etc hotels. And i do not believe that any cheongster would come and stay in these hotels unless deperate and short of rooms !!!.

The quality of the 3 hotels i stayed in, such as Venice Palace 4/8/11, Marina 5/8/11, Grand Garden 6/8/11 are rather not well maintained. The hotels in Danok such as Oliver, KPK, Siam Thana, SP, New Satit, Heijian are of a better quality and those hotels near Lee Garden in Hatyai are much better maintained than the hotels in Sungai Golok.

The insurgency stated on January 2004 in the South after the Tak Bak incident. Today, Thai army soldiers with automatic weapons move around Sungai Golok on foot, on motorbikes, in pickups, in trucks all day and night.
They are not permenantly stationed in a few locations. They moved and set up check points anywhere in this small town. Saw them just stopping people on motorbikes and other vehicles to check. I only saw soldiers temporarily stationed in a few strategic locations in town such as road junctions, near Merlin Inn and Venice Palace hotels, in the police station.

Merlin Inn, Soi Sawadee beer bars, some hotels and many banks have plastic and metal baricades in front of the roads that surround their premises. Even the ATMs in the banks have such baricades as a few kena bombed before. But the people in town are mai pen lai to the violence now. Yes, there are people with families here, young and old males with syts in tow, shoppers, people eating in the road side hawker center and restaurants, etc but the quantity is well below the start of the insurgency period.

Next; sanuking on 4/8/2011

Checked out Genting and Marina Hotels in the late afternoon. Look see, look see to see what's going on. Genting Disco got show girls. Marina Disco got coyotes in Mikado Karaoke and Country Dance Festival in Billboard Super Club disco ( 1st to 31st August ). The Mona Lisa massage parlour in Marina Hotel still have the naked Mona Lisa picture without clothes on and with naked neh neh.

Went to Soi Sawadee which is a cul de sac behind Marina Hotel. Small soi, baricaded, no motor allowed in, had to walked in. With karaokes on the left and right. Nothing but karaokes except for a coffee shop in the beginning. And with girls on the tables in front, some smiling, some calling me, some gambling, some just relaxing outside their karaokes. A good place to start here.

Walked till the end and went and sat on a seat outside a small karaoke. Puying from Laos came with tit bits and beer. She can speak Hokkien, Mandarin, and of course Thai.

Had 10 large Heinekens x RM 13 per bottle here. Another puying also joined me. Both and me were hungry as it was supper time. Ordered some aahan from the coffee shop that delivered the aahan, khao, Tom Yum fish soap, mango salad, fried fish and another salad ( their food which they loved !!! ). The food costed me RM35.

They ate ,drank with me. Upped the music in the karaoke. And every damn karaoke in this place also upped their music ( in Thai, Hokkien songs ). Talked cock with them and found out that every puying here can be booked for LT with a rate of RM200. Nice place to eye candy the puyings that come into this place. A few tyrananous dinos, many syts with fair skin, in sexy clothes, high heels. Another puying came to our table. So now, i got 3 Laos puyings that were hungry for food, beer and sanuk. This is a new farm area. You eat, drink, can sing or just danced crazily inside the karaokes with piped music. It was pretty dark inside, loh !. I was here from 6pm till 10pm thai time when i excused myself as i wanna see and do something else. The puyings all asked me to come back tomorrow.

Walked along Wamabannnuay Rd, Prachawiwat Rd to visit the farms and took the run down, dirt road that is just off Riviera Hotel. Damn !!. I remember this place. Used to take my old tirak, Ah Pom to a small karaoke/farm here to eat and to drink beer. The place now still full with karaokes/farms that are lighted red, pink, yellow in colour with seating tables in front and with puyings on the seats waiting for customers !!!. A few smiled and some puyings called out to me. Thai mamasans also called out to me as i was the only stranger walking on this un named, dirt filled, pot holed , gravel filled road. Told the mamasans in Thai that i am just walking around to look see. Nothing here changed since 16 years ago !!!. Same poor conditioned un named road, same small old karaokes ( but with coloured lights now ). Got puyings here and at cheaper LT prices. Walked till the end, turned left and left, walked by Grand Garden Hotel, went into farms.

And walked into Bang Pun karaoke/farm. Par, the malay okt ranged a bell and what ever left over puying came and presented themselves on the sofa. Talked cock with Par and found out that the LT is RM200 and ST is RM100 for 2 hours. About 20 girls ( mostly from Laos ) here without booking. Took a syt on ST. Told Par to send her to my room in Venice Palace Hotel in 30 minutes time. Walked back slowly and found her outside my door. Okay, lah. She was here. She was very tight and allowed 2 bonks. took some photos of her with towel on. After 2 hours, kicked her out with motorbike taxi money and i slept liked a baby.

Not there anymore. Either closed down during the insurgency, moved to near Grand Garden, Riviera Hotels area, or moved to Danok in Sadao.

I also cannot find my past favourite farm that is opposite Valentine Hotel.

And found that a few farms were burnt ( 2 farms with burnt roofs on your right when you enter Prachawiwat Road ). Ah Pom came from the first burnt farm that's on this corner junction.

LT was RM70. And RM80 for ang pais in the farms during the late 1980s. Good rates at that time !.

5/8/2011 Sanuk on second day in a forgotten town.

Woke up early, took a shower and walked to the wet market that is sandwiched between Genting and Marina Hotels. Yes, i love to visit wet markets to see how the locals do their work, to see the items on sale, etc.

Walked to the Moh Poh Chinese Temple that is beside Marina Hotel, and was greeted by very loud hot music. Ooooh , an aerobic lady dancer was doing her work on a stage with a bunch of older women folks following her moves and also dancing aerobic style. Had Bak Kut Teh in the stall that was in the big open car park of the temple. Later checked out of Venice Palace Hotel and moved to Marina Hotel.

Waited for my friend, Girl-Lover, to arrive. Yeah, he came but was confused because the motorbike taxi driver took a short cut from the immigration, through unused land to Marina Hotel. Gave him his hotel key, i relaxed, he took a shower in this hot afternoon. Went to eat, rented a motorbike for RM8 per hour to explore the farms. I was the tour guide for Girl-Lover in Sungai Golok.

We went to about 20 farms on the 3 roads and he was surprised at the un named soi that has gravel, pot holes, uneven small road with the smaller karaokes. Almost all the karaokes were closed, saw some puyings sleeping on the floor with the entrance half closed.

The OKTs were not pushy except for 2 bastards. Came in, saw puying, talked bullshit with the OKTs who are now mostly Malays, and we went out to continue farming. Went to a farm with 3 Thais ( not Laos ) ladies with LT at RM150 ( because these are fucking dinos ) and the Malay OKT was pissed when we refused his CHEAP OFFER because he gave us a further discount.

The other pathetic fucking bastard OKT was a older chinese guy from a farm who insisted that one of us take a very very young girl who just recently lost her virginity. He commented that the girl just got booked 4 times only, very tight, everything also can because she was guai guai girl. Me don't like to fuck a near virgin as i fucked a 15 year old Burmese, 16 year old CKT before and done it a very very long time ago and the experience, not so good as these young whores do not know about having good sex. We walked out and this bastard was doing his pathetic sales pitch to us even when we moved away on our rented motorbike.

While on farm land, we stopped when we saw a pretty lady in front of a karaoke/farm. Said hello to the pretty lady, went inside the small place and ordered beer. At least this place got air condition with fan. We have to cool down on this hot day. We had 4 big bottles of Heineken, talked cock to the pretty lady, and other puying from Laos. I gave the pretty lady a THB100 tip without the other puying knowing it. I gave the other puying a coin of 10 bhat. This small tip , she also accepted gracefully unliked those bastard service personnel in the bars in Danok that always wanted RM2 tip for every service done. We also know that we can book the pretty lady here but it was too early and we went out.

Before we went out, i asked Girl-Lover to slowly caress and to love the very huge wooden cock that has gold leaves, flowers on it. He did not notice much in such places, i am very observant of my surroundings. I asked Girl-Lover to ask and to get a good gfe girl from this huge prayer penis. This penis sculpture was on top of the counter.

We dumped our bike near Marina Hotel and walked to Soi Sawadee. We hit the bar, SEXY GIRL, went inside, was surrounded by pretty puyings, drank 12 bottles of Heineken beer. Sexy danced with numerous ladies inside the dark bar, raba or rather grabbed tightly a lady buttocks, tried to unbutton some blouses but failed. And Girl-Lover have to leave early leaving me alone with multiple puyings. Shit, leh !!!!.

5/8/2011 Continuation.

Rather crazy in Sexy Girl karaoke in which the girls can be ta pao back for RM200. One drunk chinese guy came to our table to bottom ups with the girls and us. Of course, can bottom up the small glass of beer, lah !. Girls never finished their glasses and this chinese man finished his, then, put both and shaked his thumbs down at his failed opponent. Sure, he grabbed a couple of ladies to squeezed them. He is really drunk.

He came again after Girl-Lover left and i bottom up the small glass with him and he was so happy to find a partner. Sure lah, slapped him on his back, said good things to him, put my thumbs up, etc.

Later, booked my girl in the karaoke and we both went out to the night hawker stalls on the road that was near the police station. Hungry, need to eat. Me drunk ?. Not at all. Girl ordered the food and drinks. Fried lala, a bit phet. A large crap in hot sour sauce. The food was RM38. It was good, especially the crab. Walked back to the hotel after i gave the girl some money to buy some clothes. She gave me back the money but i refused to accept it and told her to keep it. She was damn happy because of the good food, new clothes, some extra money as tips from me. After bathing, damn she looked real cute in atowel which i removed. Done with the bonk and she don't wanna join me......so okay lah.....she stayed in the room while i seeked out Girl-Lover in the next room.

We both went to Marina Billboard Super Club or disco and found out that there was not too many people inside as it was early so we went to Mikado Karaoke. This place is all old west fashion. The coyotes are in sexy clothes, with cowboy hats. The waiters and waitresses were also dressed as cowboys and cowgirls. We planted ourshelves facing the stage and with a small pole stage behind us. A coyote with cowboy hat was gyrating behind us in the small stage, 2 coyotes were in the bigger stage in front of us. Waitress came to get our order. I ordered kafee lawn. Waitress said no hot coffee here in Mikado, and only got beer. I then ordered Vita nom or Vitamilk, a soya drink.
No have soya drink here but waitress pointed at the coyotes, at their tits and say got milk there. Hehehehe !!!.

Heinekens were in small bottles at RM10 each. It was not crowded here and the coyotes came. After some small talk, my coyote with melons popping out of their short blouse, said that she is from Intramarra Soi 19, Bangkok. Whether you believe her or not is up to each individual. She asked me where i came from, I said i came from Huay Khwang, Bangkok. And that is very near her place in Intramarra. I asked her if she dance in the Intramarra agogos or not. She said she studied in Bangkok and stayed in Soi 19, Intramarra, Sutthisan area. Bullshit cock from her. Even more crap talk from me. Both us talking cock all the while and the coyote with Girl-Lover was not going anywhere with him. This girl went away. My coyote was pressing me for tequilas. She wanted 3 tequilas. I said only 2 tequilas for her. Waitress came with the 2 tequilas. Okay, no blue water tequilas liked in Hello Bangkok, Danok. Here, the tequila are in shot glasses 1/2 filled to the top with 1/4 tequila and 1/4 filled with water. Diluted tequila shit.

Tried to raba her but she successfully and playful pushed my itchy hands away. It takes a minimum of RM500 to ta pao back and to bonk a coyote. Later, put my fingers on her neck, moved fingers down on her neck towards her valley of melons, pushed out her black bra and played with her nipples. Oooooh, again she successful pushed away my hands. Then, she wanted me to hang 3 flowers at RM 10 each on her when she dance on the stage.

Chee bye bitch, dare took the flowers from flower lady and put onto herself.
Flower lady asked me to pay RM30. I said i did not put the flowers there. You gave her the flowers so you pay the RM30 !!!. She said she got no money. I said i also got no money for stupid flowers. Luckily for the coyote, i did not bring in my Vietnam Dongs, Indonesian Rupiahs, Hell money and cheapo condoms ( but i got 4 boxes of such condoms in my room which actually frightened my booking girl from karaoke Sexy Girl !!! ). Coyote was desperate for flowers. After much pushing me to buy flowers, she went away after i finished my beer and we both left the place.

Yes, got coyotes in Sungai Golok. Vultures ready for your tequilas, flowers but not let you raba them completely. They think that they are dealing with a fool from the kampung who has not been to Hatyai, Danok, Bangkok, Pattaya cheonging scenes.

Can someone please enlighten, which hotel in Sg Golok has functional WIFI; tried Genting-not good but can use Malaysia's DIGI on my laptop thou slower than my fixed line PC.

Grand Garden Hotel has WiFi. Never tested it as never brought my laptop.
This hotel is too far away from the makan places but near the farms. Hotel can get Malaysian cell phone lines but the lines go from full to zero, from zero to full bar, its fluctuated a lot in the hotel.

Continuation of FR. 5/8/2011

Oh yah !. Before we hit Marina Hotel disco and karaoke, we firstly went to Riviera Hotel which is located on the farm area. A small hotel, 5 levels only with the agogo bar located on the ground floor. Both bouncers opened the door and we took up seats next to the stage. Damn dark inside with quite a number of customers inside. Some of the customers were ladies and it was difficult to see as it was dark here but the stage was lighted by flashing strope lasers and these were directed to two agogo ladies there.

I ordered 2 Heinekens costing RM10. The beer came with FOC tit bits. Pulsating music, flashing lasers, gyrating agogo ladies with stickers on their neh neh on stage, other agogo ladies were with the other customers. We were here for less than an hour and seen almost all the ladies. One lady got a small RM10 flower from me. I slowly circled the flower on her wrist and she got smooth skin. Then we went to Marina Hotel after we again toured the un named soi behind Riveria Hotel.

6/8/2011 Field Report.

I got one ST, one LT since i was here in Sungai Golok. My friend, Girl-Lover did not get any puying and was itchy to score a target. After, my puying with the name of Dar from Sexy Girl karaoke left, we went out for food and check out of Marina Hotel and aimed for Grand Garden Hotel.

Food here is rather expensive but still a bit cheaper than the cut throat prices in Danok. There are more restaurants here. Every day, we ate meat, meat, meat and more meat !!!. Damn, need some veggies !!!.

The huge wooden penis structure where prayers were performed, in which we both caressed yesterday did its work today.

We both got 2 puyings from a farm. We later went back to Grand Garden Hotel after a walk and found out that our 2 puyings were in bed watching the TV. They were hungry and ordered some food, steamed cockles, several types of fresh uncooked veggies, some phet som tum, white khao. They asked us to join them in eating this Issan aahan. Girl-Lover refused their invitation. I joined the ladies. Simple food......but aroy mak mak.

Memories.......yeah, liked eating Issan aahan, 20 years ago with puyings in this place. Oh, i did ate such food with Ah Lin, Ah Phern, Ah Poom but my two other rather hi so Malaysian batangs also refused to join us in our food celebration, 20 years ago, in Grand Garden Hotel.

Then, disaster struck.

The other lady was busy on her mobile, called this fellow, called the OKTs, etc, etc. Do not know if my friend will be pissed off or not because she suddenly got her period. I believed her red came when she went to the toilet after the meal. So i told my lady to call the OKT not to send any replacement here and that Girl-Lover will accompany this lady back to the office ( yes, karaokes with farm girls here are called OFFICE ) and to select another girl.

The penis prayer structure worked as Girl-Lover got a girl with HUGE NICE TITS, talkative, extremely girl friendly and who stuck close to him liked a fubu.
C.B. fellow actually do not want to caress the penis stucture when i told him to do it. Then i told him to do it and wish for a girl friendly lady !!!!. Up to each individual to believe or not to believe..................loh !.

After our bonks, we left the girls in the room and went to the snooker center in Marina Hotel for a game, walked in Soi Sawadee area again but me not feeling well as got a headache.

When we got back to Grand Garden Hotel, the ladies decided not to go to Genting Hotel restaurant to eat but decided to have a BBQ in Nopparat Restaurant. They went home to make themselves beautiful while we relaxed in our rooms. When they came back, we took Grand Garden Hotel van to the restaurant which is located on the outskirts of Sungai Golok. Small but nicely decorated open air restaurant. BBQ was good. We also ordered additional food, at least got veggies to eat. After eating meat, meat, meat for a few days.......real sick of meat now ( except for puying's meat ! ), consuming veggies was excellent !!. The van came back and we went to Marina disco.

No need to pay entrance fees. Just go in and enjoy. Got live band, male and female singers, got coyotes ( from Mikado ), got sexy show with stickers on their neh neh. The hald naked ladies sure looked good from far away, but when i went nearer next to the stage............all cannot make it on terms of quality. We had about 20 bottles of small Heinekens here. Each bottle cost RM12. A jug of coke with ice was RM30. Replacement ice .....free. And no smoking in the disco......there is a fine by the authorities but the disco got a smoking room but some people , including me, don't care and smoked in the disco. The toilet is liked the clubs in Danok. Sure....can get back massage, wet towel from the male personnel that would want tips. I told them to get lost when they quietly come towards my back.

Girl-Lover was a bit high, his new puying was drunk silly, my puying was hi and feng tau liked mad, me....not even drunk yet.

It was good to see my yesteryears playground. Not much changes in Sungai Golok except for Soi Sawadee. All the hotels are rather run down. Now no katoey shows in Marina and Genting discos. It was liked heaven, with puying on your left and another one on your right and watching the " Las Vegas type " katoey shows. Of course, the katoeys would by accident flipped out their fake tits for you to view.

It was also fun when we had our annual association dinner on the conference hall on top of Genting Hall. Got sexy shows, puyings bared all, katoey shows, singers sang out songs, everyone drank until went crazy, a few fought over the naked puyings in the shows. Over 200 mad male bastards from Malaysia went bloody crazy on these nights.

Report from The New Straits Times dated 13 August 2011 :-

Thai village a shopping haven for Malaysians

RANTAU PANJANG: Malaysians, especially Muslims, continue to cross over to Mundok market, the shopping haven on the Thai side of the border here, to buy clothes and accessories in preparation for Hari Raya.

Although it is too early to buy the items, many shoppers, when interviewed, claimed that they grabbed the opportunity of the cheap prices of the goods sold at the market to buy as many as they wanted.

And despite the look of exhaustion, the shoppers appeared to enjoy buying the items, from the simple baju kurung and heads scarves, to the most expensive -- jeans, shoes and handbags.

"I'm willing to travel from Pasir Putih to the market because I want to buy new clothes for Hari Raya. My friend told me that the baju kurung and clothes for children are so much nicer.

"When I arrived at the market, I could not believe the variety of baju kurung and head scarves available.

"The children's clothes are also plenty and the prices reasonable.

"I bought 10 pairs of baju kurung and clothes for my children and four pieces of head scarves," said 34-year-old Ayuni Ahmad, a mother of four, who was at the market with two friends.

A visit to the market yesterday saw the rows of shophouses, which previously was about 50, had increased by 15 recently due to the overwhelming response not only from Malaysians but also from the locals.

The number of boats plying along Sungai Golok to ferry Malaysians from jetties near Kampung Bukit Lata here to the market have also doubled, from 15 to 30 boats.

Several policemen were seen monitoring the jetties while some were spotted checking on the arrival of the Malaysians, whether they brought in smuggled items, including firecrackers.

Mundok is a small village on the Thai side of Sungai Golok.

It has been a favourite shopping haven for Malaysians since three years ago.

Bro Yokosi, can u guide me how to go to "penis prayer structure"...:p

It is a very small bar or ktv with few girls. Its either on Grand Hotel road or the one before it. Its on your left side and in the middle of the road and have no male OKT or papasan. The penis prayer structure is quite big ( half a meter long , with some gold leaves on it, plus flowers ) and is located on the counter inside the ktv. The counter is on your left when you enter. On your right is a table and seats. Got one good looking, fair girl inside and from Laos.

Sorry, do not know this ktv number or name.

At least three people, including a foreign tourist, were killed and more than 50 wounded in three car and motorcycle bomb attacks in Narathiwat's Sungai Kolok district Friday night.

The first of three explosions went off at 6.40pm opposite the Teochew Association in Soi 3 of Charoen Khet Road in Sungai Kolok municipality.

The blast, which came from a parked motorcycle, wounded a large number of passersby, both tourists and locals, and killed a member of staff from the association.

About 15 minutes later, another motorcycle bomb went off in front of a bar about 300 metres from the first explosion, near a junction leading to the Sungai Kolok branch office of TOT Plc. Several Thais and Malaysian tourists sustained shrapnel wounds.

Around 7.20pm, a third bomb exploded from a car parked near a food stall opposite the Merlin Hotel.

The impact damaged several shops nearby and one side of the hotel.

Capt Theerapong Suwannawetch, commander of the 1922 task force responsible for security in Sungai Kolok, was also seriously injured.

Two more people, including a Malaysian tourist, were killed, but it is not yet known in which explosions.

Police have detained two suspects for questioning about the three bombs.

The explosions caused a wide power blackout in the downtown area.

Authorities blocked roads around the three bomb sites and mobile phone coverage was cut while they inspected the scenes, to prevent any possible remote detonations of further bombs.

The bomb attacks came hours after a Muslim police officer and a defence volunteer were shot dead in a mosque in tambon Budi in Yala's Muang district.

Pol Snr Sgt Maj Arong Malaya and defence volunteer Mahama Yama were killed in the attack by two men.

At noon prayer time, four men drove up to the mosque on two motorcycles and two of them walked up to the victims who were praying and shot them in the head. Three other villagers nearby were wounded.

Police said the two dead men used to work with Sompien Eksomya, a policeman dedicated to quelling the southern unrest.

Pol Gen Sompien was killed in a bomb blast early last year.

The mosque shooting came a day after five security officers were killed and one injured by a bomb buried under a road in Pattani's Kapho district.

In another attack, a bomb detonated at a military base of the Narathiwat 31st special task force in Cho Airong district of Narathiwat on Thursday night, wounding three soldiers.

Six soldiers had left their base to set up a checkpoint in a nearby village.

The attackers detonated a roadside bomb as the soldiers walked past.

Around the same time, another group of attackers shot at the base.

Officers believed the bomb attack was aimed at luring soldiers to leave their base to inspect the blast scene.

This made the base more vulnerable, as fewer troops were guarding it.

Deputy Prime Minister Kowit Wattana admitted suspected militants had stepped up their activity after the government transferred high-ranking officers to the region.

"I have talked to unit commanders about tightening security," he said.

"We will have to launch a pre-emptive strike [against the insurgents]."

From 2004 to August this year, 11,074 cases of violence in the Muslim-dominated provinces in the far South have been reported, and 4,846 people - mostly Muslims - have been killed, according to Deep South Watch.

In Narathiwat, police Friday arrested Maroki Ding, 30, a suspect allegedly working with the Runda Kumpulan Kecil guerrilla group, at a house in Ban Ta Lo Neng in Muang district.

Homeowner Dolo Arong, 54, was also arrested for allegedly giving the man a place to hide.

Earlier on Thursday night, in Yala and Pattani, two people were killed and four others wounded in attacks suspected of being linked to the insurgency.

One of the victims was Masainung Lateh, 46, a member of Katong tambon administration organisation in Yala's Yaha district, who was shot and killed in a drive-by attack, police said.

Report from The Nation dated 19 September 2011 :-

Malaysian's death takes bomb toll to 5

The death toll in Friday's series of three bomb attacks in Narathiwat's Su-ngai Kolok district has risen to five after a Malaysian tourist succumbed to his injuries.

The district's normally lively downtown area has been mostly silent since the bombs exploded on Friday evening. Tourism-related businesses have been hurt by the attacks as tourists, mostly Malaysians, have cancelled their trips and hotel reservations over safety concerns.

"Tourists have cancelled reservations for 1,800 rooms owned by 42 hotel operators," said Saengthong Preechawuttidej, chairman of the Su-ngai Kolok Hotel Association.

Police would issue arrest warrants for two of eight suspects captured on video by closed-circuit cameras in a few days, said acting national police chief Pol General Priewpan Damapong.

Yau Wing, 53, succumbed to his injuries at Yala Hospital on Saturday night.

The attacks killed four Malaysian tourists - including a 3-year-old boy - and a Thai rescue worker.

26 STILL IN HOSPITAL

Meanwhile, 26 of the more than 100 people injured remain hospitalised, six of them in serious condition. They were admitted to Yala, Songkhla Nakarin University and Su-ngai Kolok hospitals.

Priewpan was flown by helicopter to the district yesterday to inspect the attack scenes. Provincial police reported to him on the progress of the investigation.

During their report presentation, police said the two suspects were members of a militant group in Su-ngai Padi district in the same province. Police identified them only as Saman and Mading, withholding their surnames. The suspects were under surveillance by plainclothes police officers to prevent them from escaping, they said.

Priewpan said the two suspects were Runda Kumpalan Kecil (RKK) members hired by drug syndicates in the area to carry out the attack in retaliation for a major drug bust.

The RKK is a Malay nationalist group blamed for violence in the South.

TOURISM 'AFFECTED'

Saengthong said the bomb attacks on Friday evening were the worst incident since violence first broke out in 2004, as it was the first time that bomb attacks had killed foreign tourists.

He said the incident had unavoidably affected tourism, the economy and trade in the district as it caused tourists and entrepreneurs, especially those from Kelantan and Terengganu states in Malaysia, to fear for their safety.

Aman Madadam, director of the Tourism Authority of Thailand's Narathiwat office, said the Malaysian media had devoted a lot of attention to the attacks, reporting from the district continuously.

Aman and Saengthong called on authorities to implement practical measures to ensure people's safety in a bid to restore the district's image.

Saengthong said hotel operators and other service-sector firms would not leave Su-ngai Kolok, despite the violence. But the government would have to act sincerely to end the chronic violence, he said.

Priewpan said police, military and administrative officials would adjust their security measures, taking responsibility for clearly zoned areas and co-ordinating their work.

Report from Bangkok Post dated 21 October 2011 :-

Consumer goods shortages in South Thailand

People in southern Thailand are facing consumer goods shortages because of the increasing demand for goods for flood-hit areas to their north, reports said on Friday.

The intense flooding from the North into the Central Plains, and now Bangkok, has prompted many people to hoard goods.

To add to their problems, authorities have warned some provinces in the South to brace for flash floods and forest run-off this month from heavy rain.

Shortages of drinking water and other consumer products have been reported in many markets in the South.

Shopping malls in Songkhla's Hat Yai district have to put up 'out of stock' signs and apologise to their customers, the reports said.

REMARKS : If you plan to travel to Phuket, Hatyai, Danok and Sungai Golok, don't forget to bring along mineral water and lots of instant noodles

hi bros.. i know this thread is rather old...
and I wish I came across this thread earlier...
recently came back from Golok.. I like the place as it is rather quiet but can still find gems every once in a while...

i just wondering if any bros here have any updates on recommended places...?
have not had good experiences in the farms (last trip the girl ran .. first time it happened to me... and of course the taokei don't care)
and have not had any great experiences with the Lao women (which i'm told that all the workers at Soi Sawadee are Lao not thai)

So far my best experiences have been the massage ladies from Mona Liza in Marina... and the few times I've managed to pick up FL at the disco... (I'm usually here alone, so find it harder to approach the ladies)

And like I mentioned, I wish I had come across this thread earlier as just before I left, a coyote dancer from Mikado told me they had a disco in Riviera... I never bothered with the place as it looked small and kinda dodgy..but is on the top of my list of places to check out on my next trip
Also wondering if any brothers here know about the corner restaurant near Riviera. I didn't go in but looks like lot of activity going on there.. wondering if it is just late night eating or got FL looking for last minute booking at 3 am?...

hope any Golok seniors can help me out?..

The corner restaurant opposite Riviera Hotel is actually a small KTV and not an "office".

" Office " is a farm.

KTVs are for u to have some beers, eat food, meet puyings.....and book a lady that you wanna bonk. Just liked the KTVs in Soi Sawadee.

Report from The Nation dated 23 September 2012 :-

Car bombs attacks in Southern Thailand

Security measures have been beefed up in the deep South following Friday's car bombing in Pattani's Sai Buri district, which killed six people and wounded some 50 others.
Pattani Governor Theera Minthasak said the insurgents had shifted from attacking officials to terrorising city residents and destroying the economy, in an attempt to discredit the state. He called for security to be beefed up, saying Friday's bombing might have been carried out by the same group that attacked the CS Pattani Hotel and a Honda showroom last month.

He reported that 26 injured persons remained hospitalised.

Combined forces of the Army and police tightened security in four Songkhla districts bordering the restive southernmost region. Songkhla residents were urged to look out for 10 stolen cars that might be used as car bombs, while officials manned strict checkpoints in Chana district to prevent any violence spilling over into Muang and Hat Yai districts.

However, the regional unrest continued yesterday with a roadside bomb attack at 11am in Narathiwat's Chanae district, which wounded a defence volunteer, Yasa Jehsor, 24.

Report from The New Straits Times (Malaysia) dated 25 September 2012 :-

Thailand to seek sultan's nod for tunnel project linking Kelantan to Thailand

TUMPAT: Representatives from the Thai government will meet Sultan of Kelantan, Sultan Muhammad V to get the ruler's approval regarding their proposal to build an underwater tunnel connecting the border towns of Takbai and Pengkalan Kubor here.

Takbai district officer Somsaat Sithi Warkian said the meeting was expected to take place when a special delegation from Narathiwat province arrived in the state.

"Our committee members in Narathiwat have agreed to build the 400m tunnel as a gift to the sultan and the people of Kelantan, and decided to cancel the plan to build a bridge connecting the two places, which had been discussed over the years, but has yet to be implemented," he said.

"The delegation wants to meet the ruler so that the tunnel project, which is financed by the Thai government, can be carried out faster."

Somsaat added that the cost of building the tunnel had increased from RM120 million to RM150 million due to the increase in the cost of building materials.

He hoped the construction of the tunnel, which would be the first in the region, would ease the problem faced by people of both countries who had to travel across the Sungai Golok via boats and ferries.

In another development, Somsaat said the Thai government had issued a special facility card for the Malaysian enforcement officers to facilitate their travelling to the southern province for work purposes without using their travel documents.

He said the card, which was introduced last month, was only given to officers on duty along the Malaysian border areas, especially those operating in Pengkalan Kubor.

Report from Bangkok Post dated 10/10/12 :-

Malaysians / Singaporeans warned, HIV risk in South Thailand

The Malaysian state of Perak has warned Malaysian men travelling to Thailand's southern border provinces that they are at risk of being infected by the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV), a local newspaper in Malaysia reported on Tuesday.

According to the report in Kosmo, a recent study showed a rise in the the number of Malaysian men who contracted HIV after visiting Yala's Betong district, Narathiwat's Sungai Kolok district and Songkhla's Hat Yai district.

Betong health official Wongwit Akarawarothai said the Ministry of Public Health has been giving medical check-ups to women who work in the sex industry twice a year.

"If we find women who have Aids or other sexually transmitted diseases they will be treated and not be allowed to work in the sex industry again," Mr Wongwit said.

"The women should ask their clients to wear condoms every time they have sex, but we have learned that the women and their clients are usually drunk and they forget to use condoms."

evo7ctpa,

You stay either in Genting Hotel on Asia Road or in Marina Hotel.

Marina Hotel is better as it is center to all activities in Golok, i.e; massage places, foof, disco, lounge, karaokes ( real ones ) with beer and tapoa ladies later, but be very careful of bombs.

The last bomb went off near the Chinese temple which is a stone throw away from Marina Hotel.

Bro yokosi,

Thanks for the pointer. Will go for Marina Hotel if they have rooms for tmrw night; I read review Genting's room are relatively small.

Last question, if you could help me out; do u know if car registration is required to drive in? If not, how far by tuk2 or bike from border is marina hotel? I read somewhere not to hire tout before the border.

Malaysians urged to stay away from southern Thailand

KOTA BARU: Malaysians, including residents at the Kelantan/Thai border, should temporarily stop travelling to southern Thailand following the latest insurgent attack at an army base in Narathiwat which killed 16 militants on Wednesday.
Eighth Infantry Brigade commander Brig-Gen Datuk Mohamad Zaki Hamzah said the call was made for their safety as Malaysians regularly crossed the border. They include day-trippers.

He said security personnel on the Kelantan side of the border with Narathiwat had been told to be on alert for any illegal movements in the area.

"So far, they have not detected any illegal elements or movement trying to sneak into our country after the incident.

"However, as a precaution, it is better for Malaysians not to cross over to Thailand at the moment as we do not know what actually happened there.

"The Thai government has also imposed a curfew in the most affected provinces."

Zaki said he believed Thai authorities, especially the army, had not asked assistance from the brigade as they were capable of handling the situation.

"I believe they can control the situation by taking their own action to solve the problem. However, we will not hesitate to help them if they ask us to do so."

Kelantan police chief Datuk Jalaluddin Abdul Rahman said the situation along the border was under control as all agencies, including the army and the state anti-smuggling unit, were monitoring the situation closely.

He called on border residents who had information or had come across those involved in the incident, to inform the army or the police immediately.

In the incident, 16 militants were killed when scores of heavily armed gunmen attacked a marine base in Narathiwat's Bacho district.

However, no military casualties were reported in the assault which was described as one of the most deadly attacks in Thailand's long-running insurgency.

Narathiwat governor Apinun Suetananuwong said that the situation in the province was under control as all agencies involved continued their operation to track down the remaining insurgents.

The corner restaurant opposite Riviera Hotel is actually a small KTV and not an "office".

" Office " is a farm.

KTVs are for u to have some beers, eat food, meet puyings.....and book a lady that you wanna bonk. Just liked the KTVs in Soi Sawadee.
oh thank you... just wondering why it opened so late...
when I was there last month it looked like it was closed...

Sure, there are hotels available during Songkran in Sg. Golok.

Try Thaksin 1 and 2 and other cheaper hotels. Hehehe !!!.

1. Hotel Plaza - telephone no and do they pickup at thai border
2. Hotel Marina - telephone no and do they pickup at thai border
3. Any hotel that does pickup from thai border
4. Any teksi in rantau panjang who will drive us into golok to hotel ( my group of 4 dont really prefer the bikes)
5. Which area has the best signal for malaysian telco.

Most of the other information i have read from the forum and very well written and lots of information.

Hotels in Golok such as Plaza, Marina, Genting, Riverra have vans ferrying you to places for ........going back to Malaysia via the immigration area, boat rides across Sungai Golok and back to Malaysia, restaurants somewhere else in town but you need to tell the van driver where you want to go and pay him some tips.

However, i do not have their telephone numbers.

Pickups at the border......depends. The van driver drops off people and goes away. If you are lucky you can get onto the van but van driver will take you to another hotel if you request him to do so but you must tip him.

Best is that you ask teksi drivers in Rantau Panjang to take you across. But you must stamp your passports at Harmony bridge. This can be done as i had travelled to Golok via boat rides, via Harmony bridge ( using passport ), and with retailers in motorbikes and cars driving me across Harmony bridge ( without stamping the passport ) for eats, dinners, etc.

Telco lines strong near the border. You can stay in Genting, Marina hotels. Reasonably strong in Plaza and Merlin hotels. Telco lines fluctuates in Riverra and hardly any lines in Intercontinental Hotel.

Agreed to your above.

Quality dropping with Laos ladies. Can hardly find any Thais except for dinosaurs.

Yesteryears were excellent. Nowadays.....better me forget it.

And the prices are up in heaven with the value of the Malaysian Ringgit in hell, Thai border towns are for many years getting too expensive.

Hi guys. Will be heading to golok soon.

First timer. What is the price range for LT and is it nowadays no more Thais and all are Laos girl?

U stay in Genting or Marina Hotel. Rates are cheaper than Danok hotels.

Genting Hotel with a market behind. Marina Hotel with Soi Sawadee nearby.
Both hotels are bigger but not so well maintained. All hotels in this area are not well maintained. Be well prepared as there are the furniture are old and well damaged with burnt cigs. Genting with a swimming pool. Marina Hotel with a non working swimming pool. Both have restaurants, massage parlours and discos inside. Marina Hotel has agogos but the ladies wear clothes and do not take everything off. Be careful of ladies in the agogo and the dancers who are vultures for lady drinks and flowers. They are not local but are from Bangkok or Hatyai or Korat and are money minded. Book them for a night after the clubs are closed will cost you THB 7000 and above per night.

Both a bit further from the offices. Offices are whore houses in Sungai Golok.

However, you can walk to Soi Sawadee which is a karaoke area whereby you drink, eat and be merry with the selected ladies. There are about 20 small ktvs here. Ladies are 99% Laos and can speak Thai. You can book ladies at RM 350 to RM 400 per night. Soi Sawadee opens at around 4 pm ( Thai time ). There is an air con up market coffee shop at the entrance to Soi Sawadee.

Other hotels near Marina Hotel are Parkson, Plaza, Merlin, Venice, Tara Regent but are even worse than Genting and Marina Hotels.

The other disco in town is inside and on the ground floor of Riveria Hotel. It is to your left of the recep counter. Here you got agogo club, very dark inside, with ladies taking off their bras and with laser lights on the stage. Manager in this agogo is ok. Greet customers and yum seng with them but will never drink your beer without asking you first. He brings his own beer to your table.

Near Riviera Hotel is Grand Garden Hotel, another run down not well maintained hotel with a swimming pool. No disco here. Disco closed down. Between Grand Garden and Riviera Hotel is a small side lane that goes to Soi Barbie ( it is an un named unpaved road, Soi Barbie is just a nick name). The lane and the road in Soi Barbie are unpaved. Soi Barbie is another area with local ktvs, with ladies that are cheaper for ST and LT bonks. Ktvs here, opened at night. Ladies sit on the patios, waiting for customers in the late afternoon. Prices: RM 250 to RM 350. I have been here before to drink beer and eat with few ladies in several ktvs. Please remember that in such a ktv, you don't sing songs, you just drink and be merry with the girls.

Thai girls available only at one office but you will vomit at their looks so I will not recommend you this place which is somewhere in the middle of Soi Prachawiwat.

When you enter the Soi with Riviera Hotel ( to your right side in the middle of the road ), you look left. Near the beginning of this road ( Soi Prachawiwat ), is an office, named Bang Pun ( shop name is in wood and on top of the entrance ), the okt is friendly and is a Malay. No show u ugly face if you do not want any lady. Only Laos girls here.

Please be smart, stay away from motorbikes and parked cars ( with bombs inside ), stay in Soi Sawadee for afternoon drinks ( the road is permanently closed to bikes, cars and trucks ), at night go to the discos and agogos in Genting, Marina and Riviera hotels. If you want to stay far away, you choose Inteltower Hotel. This hotel is almost out of town area.

Many whore offices in town area, such as farm 497 with Valentine Hotel opposite it, 497 had the best syt girls in Sungai Golok and the next farm near it, closed down long long time ago. Offices are now concentrated on the two Sois around Riviera Hotel. This area is the first place whereby there are many "offices " and ktvs whereby you can book ladies. The second is Soi Barbie, the third and newest ( which is about 10 years ago ) is Soi Sawadee.

Great one bro Yokosi! Very informative!

Kop Khun ! If u r at golok how great!!!!

By the way the small offices is it they offer like beer and can sit there drink while day? Got aircond ? Since so hot in Malaysia and Thai

FYI, farms in Sg.Golok are either in " offices " or in ktvs.

"Offices", u go in, okt call the girls for u to mirror, u sit down, u ask the price for ST and LT, u ask other questions such as BBBJ, etc, u select a lady or two for a threesome, u pay, u tell the okt the timing when your lady or ladies will arrive in the room. If u want immediate bonk, u and lady will ride in okt bike to your room. They do not serve beer here.

In ktvs, such as those in Soi Sawadee, in Soi Prachawiwat and in Soi Barbie, they serve beer in big bottles. U drink, women don't line up for u to view as in the offices and will come to u to accompany you ( and they drink also, u ask for Singha - they no have as Singha is heavier in alcohol than in Heineken ). U be merry, raba if u can, buy dinner ( they do have out source dinner from some restaurants for Soi Sawadee ktvs ). You know what to do here. No need to teach u.

U like any women, u ask the price, and pay and off u go. They open late at 4 in the afternoon. Ktvs are small in size liked in a small living room, music ( Thai and Chinese songs ) are piped in. U cannot sing there as there are no microphones and u cannot select your songs.

Here in ktvs are more cordial liked, can get to know the lady first and have some chemistry first before u do your selection. Sometimes, one or two ladies or more will accompany you.

Prices for ST and LT in such local ktvs are the same as in the offices. You MUST ask first before u select her. Ask because some may have red water coming, a bit sick but need to work, etc. You pay her and she gives to the mamasan. If u liked another lady, u ask her to join your group.

Many ladies speaks only Laos and Thai. Some speak Hokkien. A few can speak a few words of Malay. And all no speak pasa angkrit ( English ) fully. Beer, food, tips, you pay extra.

Most ktvs do not have air con, except for those that are in Soi Sawadee.

Best is to go around the offices and ktvs to do your selection. It is hot in Sg. Golok in the afternoon, best is to cool down in a ktv, have small talk with lady or ladies ( see who is okay and who is lansi ), drink some beer and have some food outside ( in order to view other ladies from other ktvs nearby ). Inside the ktvs, u can be a bit crazy, danced, yum seng, raba a bit.

The ladies here are different from those in Danok. In Danok, many Laos ladies are cheaters, no service, liked dead spiders with legs spread for u to bonk, cheat you of tips and etc, con you of money to go see doctor and other bull shit. The ladies here are more girl friendly. Hardly, they will cheat you ( except that when you are stupid and pick any lady up that was on a motorbike ). In over twenty years, me never get cheated here and had ( past tense ) 3 syt tiraks here.
